I am disappointed at the fuel consumption of my LDV Convoy 2.5L TD. It gets in the low 20s, max 25 avg on a long run, never high 20s. I expected about 30 dipping to 25 in town.
I have so far flushed & replaced the engine oil, changed the oil filter, fuel filter, & air filter; put Redex & then Injector Protector in the diesel; set the tyres to 55 psi; checked the brakes aren’t binding; removed & cleaned all the air intake pipes.
Jobs still to do – check the thermostat (temp gauge stays around the 1/3 mark); adjust the idle (now around 1000-1100 rpm – should be around 750.
The van always starts on the key, has no smoke, & runs fine, loads of oomph. The only thing is that to get good power on hills I have to avoid flooring the throttle. If the pedal is floored, power drops off badly & I have to change down. Keep the throttle very light, & I get up better in a higher gear.
Does anyone have any idea a) what mpg this vehicle should give & b) any more ideas of how to improve it??
Many thanks!
